The Philadelphia Eagles made their first trade of training camp thus far, shipping linebackers Moise Fokou and Greg Lloyd Jr to the Indianapolis Colts for cornerback Kevin Thomas and a conditional seventh round draft pick in 2013.

The move makes a lot of sense for the Eagles, as Fokou and Lloyd were not likely to make the final roster anyway.

Fokou, a seventh round draft pick in 2009, started 22 games for the Eagles over three seasons and was a key contributor on special teams. He was what you’d expect from a seventh round draft pick, essentially. He hung onto the team for a couple of years but wasn’t good enough to start regularly.

Lloyd, the son of former Pittsburgh Steelers great linebacker Greg Lloyd, was selected in the seventh round last year and spent the majority of the season on the practice squad. He never played in a game for the Eagles.

In return for Fokou and Lloyd, the Eagles received cornerback Kevin Thomas, who was drafted in the third round of the 2010 draft by Indianapolis but missed the entire season due to a knee injury. Last year, Thomas played in nine games, starting five, and recording 20 tackles and three passes defensed.

He is a long shot to make the roster for the Eagles because Nnamdi Asomugha, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Curtis Marsh, and Brandon Boykin are essentially locks to make the team, and veteran Joselio Hanson and rookie free agent Cliff Harris are also in the mix.

Expect the Eagles to conduct business with the Colts again over the next few years, as their general manager, Ryan Grigson, came directly from Philadelphia.
