Philadelphia Flyers Have Another Two Loss Weekend; Mental Issues Might Be in Play

The Philadelphia Flyers lost the New Jersey Devils and New York Rangers last weekend, so how did they follow it up this weekend?  Well they lost to the Rangers again and lost to the Detroit Red Wings, helping the Wings tie the record for the most consecutive home wins.

I think mental issues are coming into play with the Flyers during this tough patch.  Looking first at the Rangers game on Saturday, the Flyers gave up three power play goals.  The Flyers have now dropped their last seven games against the Rangers.

You can see the Flyers style of play change when they fall behind against New York, almost as if they just feel that this is not the game to beat the Rangers.  Philly seems almost dejected and as if they are just going through the motions.

Last night against the Red Wings the Flyers were playing physical to start the game, then after the first goal they stopped hitting.  Philadelphia did manage to hold two leads in the game, but managed to give the game right back.  The Flyers PK let them down again allowing two power play goals.  In the last two games the Flyers have allowed five power play goals.

I would not be shocked to see the Flyers try some team building exercises, the team doesn’t play again until Thursday, to get their minds off the game for a bit.  It seems the players are having trouble forgetting previous games and are thinking about it on the ice when something goes wrong.
