As if losing Game 5 at home of the NLDS wasn’t already difficult to deal with, the Philadelphia Phillies received the news on Saturday they didn’t want to hear–first baseman Ryan Howard has a torn Achilles tendon in his left leg and will miss a significant amount of time.

According to Howard Eskin of NBC 10 in Philadelphia, Howard’s injury will keep him out until May or June at the earliest–if not longer. The injury occurred on the final out of the game and he immediately dropped to the ground after grounding out to second.

Obviously, Howard is arguably the best player on the Phillies’ offense and this news comes as devastating to a team that set a franchise record this past season with 102 wins. Hopefully, Howard returns to the field quicker than expected, but based off what Eskin claims–it doesn’t look good for No. 6 and the Phillies.
