Arron Asham was first kept out of the lineup last month against the Carolina Hurricanes on January 17th due to what was reported by the organization as an illness.  He was again kept out of the following game on January 19th against the New York Rangers when it was reported that he was not only suffering from an illness but also from concussion-like symptoms.

According to head coach Dan Bylsma, “Arron Asham, who had an illness, also has some other symptoms that are concussion-like and we are treating it as such.”

Since that time, Asham has not been on the ice or participated in any practices and as of today, the team placed him on injured reserve (IR).  To fill fill his spot in the lineup, the Penguins recalled forward Justin Williams from the AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre Scranton.

Earlier today, Bylsma also reported that forward Colin McDonald will be in tonight’s lineup alongside Steve Sullivan and Cal O’Reilly in place of Tyler Kennedy.  Kennedy suffered a lower body injury in Sunday’s game against the New Jersey Devils.  He left the team to head back to Pittsburgh to be further evaluated according to ROOT Sports Pittsburgh.
