Tonight, the Pittsburgh Pirates will take on the Philadelphia Phillies in Philadelphia for the second time in as many nights.

Last night, the Pirates scored two runs off Phillies starter Joe Blanton and delivered one more off reliever Pat Misch, but ultimately lost the game 4-3.

Left-hander Tony Watson started the game for the Pirates, allowing a run off one hit. Manager Clint Hurdle and the Pirates never intended for Watson to go more than an inning, as he was relived by Evan Meek. Meek also allowed a single run off one hit.

Andrew McCutchen hit his fourth home run of the spring when he took Misch deep in the sixth inning.

Today, the two teams meet again at Citizens Bank Park in Philly. James McDonald will start for the Pirates against Philadelphia’s Cole Hamels.

The Bucs will fly back to Pittsburgh after tonight’s game for a workout on Wednesday before Thursday’s Season Opener against none other than these Phillies.

Here is the Pirates’ lineup for today:

1. Jose Tabata, LF

2. Yamaico Navarro, RF

3. Andrew McCutchen, CF

4. Casey McGehee, 3B

5. Matt Hague, 1B

6. Neil Walker, 2B

7. Rod Barajas, C

8. Clint Barmes, SS

9. McDonald, P

Tomorrow I’ll have my season preview posts up with my projections for the players and for the team as a whole.

I really love this time of year. Regular season baseball mixed with playoff hockey, plus the Pirates sitting at a .500 record. Doesn’t get much better than that.
