LONDON, UK – With English Premier League heavyweights Manchester United and Arsenal set to square off at Emirates Stadium in North London, the question surrounding many is, will the Gunners avenge their 8-2 loss at the hands of the Red Devils?

Manchester United, the 19-time English Premier League champions, would hand the Gunners their worst-ever defeat in their 125-year history back in August.

United striker Wayne Rooney would lead the Red Devils with a hat trick by scoring in the 41st, 64th and 82nd minutes of the rout. Arsenal would get goals from strikers Theo Walcott (45’) and Robin van Persie (74’)

The aftermath of the 8-2 drubbing at Old Trafford forced Gunners manager Arsene Wenger to get Arsenal some much needed help in the forms of Ju-Young Park, Andre Santos, Per Mertersacker, Mikel Arteta, Yossi Benayoun—and most recently Thierry Henry.

One difference between now and August is that the Gunners look to have finally stabilized their form at the midfield with Arteta and at striker with van Persie, Gervinho, Walcott and Henry, if there is one area that may give the Gunners some concern going into Sunday is the play of the defense.

With the exception of Mertesacker and Santos, Arsenal’s defense is very suspect and has a tendency to give up long runs down the wings and has shown to be soft in the middle, which is something that Arsenal cannot allow the likes of world-class strikers such as Rooney, Patrice Ezra, Ryan Giggs and Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez freedom to move and strike.

Arsenal has the advantage of playing at home, with the element of revenge as a Christopher Nolan-worthy subplot of revenge driving them, they will also be boosted emotionally by having Henry on the pitch along with van Persie, Walcott and Gervinho.

Manchester United is beatable and needs this game to keep pace with local rival, City, who sit at the top of the table with 51 points to their 48, the Gunners who sit in fifth position with 36, may be 15 points back, but with upcoming home fixtures with Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester City, the Gunners may find themselves in prime position to make a real move up the table.

For Arsenal, it starts Sunday—in front of a live audience in the United States—on Championship Sunday, that the Gunners hope will be truly epic.
