Soccer: West Ham’s Ravel Morrison Took His Feelings to Twitter
Jason O. Watson-US PRESSWIRE

Once again we see another example of a young player taking his frustration out on the social media world.

West Ham’s midfielder was recently fined $11,000 for his gay slurs through his Twitter account.

The FA says Morrison was “warned as to his future conduct after he admitted a charge of using abusive and/or insulting words, including a reference to a person’s sexual orientation”. The 19-year-old Morrison posted the tweet shortly after joining West Ham from Manchester United last month.

In response to an apparent racist comment, which also suggested the teenage midfielder was addicted to drugs, Morrison tweeted,“Crack head? Go suck out u little faggot your a guy that talks if u see me you try slap me I’m in manchester every week.”

For years, people have often criticized soccer in general for it’s willingness to sign these kids to professional contracts before they have a chance to grow up. Maybe they should consider something the NFL does, make the player be three years removed from high school. Then they have time to grow up.

Social media feeds like Twitter have become a great way for fans to interact with players and vice-versa. However, the players have got to be smart about what they say. The athlete has to and should know, what they say is going to be blown out of proportion. Or when they use a racial comment or a gay slur everyone will see it.

Morrison, who is 19, should be an example for a lot of young players out there. When you are mad about something don’t run your mouth, and put it on Twitter for the whole world to see.
