United States Soccer First Win in 82 Years Beating Italy 1-0
It was an international friendly but don’t tell that to the United States players,coaches and fans. It is an exciting day for American soccer as we have waited a long time to finally get back on the “map” in the soccer world, and this win just shows we are on our way.
United States beat Italy 1-0 on a goal by Clint Dempsey in the 55th minute. This is the first time they have beat Italy in 82 years. The United States and Italy have met 11 times in 82 years. This is the first loss in Genoa for the Italians.
This game was a big deal, not only to be competitive in, but to win. The Americans were without their emotional leader, London Donavon, who didn’t even make the trip.
This win by the Americans gives them confidence under their fairly new head coach Klingsmann. It is an exciting time in U.S.A soccer and this win is just a credit to the hard work and dedication that has been put into U.S Soccer. We are no longer the laughing stock of the world, we are now one of the front runners for the World Cup.
