After two wins in their last set of home games the Tampa Bay Lightning will be finishing their season Saturday night in Winnipeg. This doesn’t mean there isn’t some competitive high-quality hockey for locals to enjoy though.

The NCAA Frozen Four will be continuing in the Lightning’s home arena in the Tampa Bay Times Forum after two exciting games in the semifinals.

The earlier game started off between the Ferris State Bulldogs and the surprise newcomers of the Union College Dutchmen. This was Union’s first ever appearance in the Frozen Four tournament and it may not be there last but they won’t be going any further this season.

What started off as a slow game with only 13 shots and no goals between the two teams ended up as a nail-biter until the game was decided late in the third period.

The Dutchmen put the first goal on the board in the second period to take the lead until the Bulldogs answered with three unanswered goals. The Bulldogs scored the game-winning goal with only a few minutes left in the third and then added an empty-netter to assure themselves a spot in the big game against the winner of the follow-up game.

The number-one ranked Boston College Eagles were playing against the Minnesota Golden Gophers who are never to be taken lightly whether they’re ranked well or not.

Boston College did just that too. Not only did they put up the first goal on the board six minutes into the first period but they also tallied the next three goals in the second period putting the Golden Gophers in quite the predicament.

Minnesota had to score and they had to score early to even have a shot of topping the Eagles. They scored a little over a minute into the first to give Golden Gopher fans some hope. But hope is all it was though and for a short time too as the Eagles responded back with a goal of their own 22 seconds later and then one last goal a couple minutes after.

With a final score of Boston College six and the University of Minnesota one Saturday’s championship game will be at 7 pm eastern time between the Boston College Eagles and the Ferris State Bulldogs.

Boston College has scored 12 goals and only allowed one in the three rounds played so far. Ferris State on the other hand has scored seven goals and allowed one goal in each game played so far.

Boston College has some more offense on their side but both teams are performing well defensively. In what should be a close game the teams with the least mistakes will likely be on top in this close match-up.

So even though the Tampa Bay Lightning won’t be playing for a championship in their home arena local fans can still see championship hockey with some possible future prospects of future Bolts.

GO FERRIS STATE!!!!!! i just like them because they have never made it to a finals game let alone win one. i like the underdog… also they were projected to finish 9th in their conference at the beginning of the season and now there in the national championship
