Though I could also see Matt Kalil, the Offensive tackle ended at the number three spot with the Vikings, considering their young talent behind the line of scrimmage, I don’t think he’d do too badly in Cleveland to be honest with you.

Everyone wants to see the Browns get a new quarterback; many are saying Robert Griffin III would fit perfectly here. However I think if you add a little protection to young talent the Browns will work out just fine.

Kalil is a strong left tackle, and when I say left tackle I mean it. Not like one of those tackles you sign, that plays on the left side through college and then gets moved to the right side when he gets to the NFL.

The guy is huge and he is very strong on his feet.  The Browns offense average about 4.5 yards per play last year. If they had a little more time then Colt McCoy can stay in the pocket or even venture out a bit. It comes down to coverage. And with a blindside protection like Kalil, the Browns would be good to go.

Cleveland is spoiled in this years’ draft. Not only do they get fourth overall, they get pick number 22 as part of the Julio Jones draft-day trade from the Falcons.

  1. Browns fan says:

Good point. The Browns already have one of the top, if not the top, left tackles in football. Drafting a back-up LT with the #4 would be brilliant. He could hold Thomas’ towel and really help the 2nd team take over pre-season games.

    • Stephanie Umek says:

Alright then, flip him to right, and secure the O-line. I find it a better decision then to draft another QB-to do what? Hold McCoy’s towel?

      • You are Wrong says:

Drafting him to flip ether him or the pro bowler who occupies his position would be a criminal waste of a draft pick and a waste of fantastic talent. The Browns can just as easily draft a right tackle with the number 23 or 37, which would make sense.

Moris Caliborn, Justin Blackmon, RG3 are all much more likely to be drafted by the Browns, whichever falls to the position. even with the horrible rush offense of Shurmur’s Trent Richardson would be a better pick (although still a bad pick)

  2. LOL FAIL says:

The fact that you ignored Joe Thomas’ existence shows you don’t know a thing about the Browns besides the fact Colt McCoy was the QB this past year.

“Then flip him to the right.” Because every team drafts their dream right tackle at 4th overall, right?

What a joke. The commenter “You Are Wrong” is much closer to what will actually happen.

  3. Mike says:

If St Louis stands pat with the 2nd pick and takes Blackmon, the Browns would be in a great position to trade down with any number of teams to pick up alot of good draft picks. It wouldnt surprise me to see them pick Quentin Coples from N.Carolina,D.E.This draft is loaded with good skill position players in rounds 1-3.

  4. MrJoeG says:

Do you understand just how dumb this pick is? The Browns have a franchise, ALL-PRO left tackle. You are obviously a poor choice to be covering any NFL team if you don’t even know how the damn league works. Its sad that you get paid for this… you should have to refund your weeks pay for this shit coverage of the NFL draft.

Note: Colt McCoy was a 3rd round pick. He was not the young, face of the future pick you made him out to be with your “I just can’t see the waste of time drafting yet another young quarterback.” comment. You can’t see a team making a logical draft pick for their needs? Noted. You have no idea what you’re saying. Why would they draft Matt Kalil? I just can’t see the waste of time drafting yet another young left tackle. See, my “I just can’t see” comment comes with logic, because they have an ALL-PRO at the position. FYI, since you may not know… ALL-PRO means they have been deemed the best at their position in the whole of the NFL. Joe Thomas has received this award for the past three seasons. DO YOUR HOMEWORK. YOU FAILED AT THIS ASSIGNMENT.

  5. Huh? says:

This is a joke, right? You want to pass on a skill position player we desperately need to draft a RT? You realize we could just draft someone like Mike Adams at 22, no? The fact that you didn’t even mention Joe Thomas is enough to make me believe you should never be able to write about football again. As for not wanting another young QB, that kinda has to happen if the orginization isn’t sold on McCoy. Or I guess we could be gun shy and never draft a QB again and go 5-11 or so til McCoy retires if he doesn’t develop.

  6. You are an idiot says:

Joe Thomas is a future HOF left tackle. The Browns just re-upped his contract and he will remain at that LT spot until her retires. Kalil would be nice to have at right tackle ensuring the protection of whatever QB is back there. Hell, they could bring back Couch with that kind of protection and he would still do decent. Mike Adams would make the most sense with his massive build and strength and will do nothing but learn, learn, learn from Thomas. Right guard would also be a wise draft move if opportunity presents itself (not with the #4 overall). Cordy Glenn with the #22 pick would not upset me. Blackmon at #4, Glenn or Mike Adams or Whitney Merceilis (sp?) at #22 and hopefully Zach Brown or Chase Minnifield if 1 of them falls in the 2nd round..that would work out great.

  7. josh says:

I absolutely agree with getting a OT. Colt got sacked 32 times in 13 games, that isn’t just a blip on the radar thats no big deal. Kalil will be gone by #4 but to wait until 22 would mean missing out on reiff, martin, and adams. could grab sanders but he would fit better at pick 37…see the point, we would have just missed out on all the top OT’s. Chances are that Decastro and Glenn will be gone as well, which just leaves zeitler most likely as next best, again- a waste of a pick at 22. I would love to trade back a few spots if possible(somewhere between 7-11) and grab an extra pick. We could grab reiff and have one of the better lines in the nfl, and in our defense-elite division, that matters a lot.
