Yesterday afternoon the Tennessee Titans came to terms with Wide Receiver Lavelle Hawkins and hired Jonathan Gannon as Defensive Assistant/Quality Control.  Arthur Smith, who was in Gannon’s new position last year, will now become Offensive Assistant/Quality Control.

Hawkins was drafted by the Titans in the 4th round of 2008. He graduated from the University of California.

Last year he had what most people are saying the best year of his career so far. He played in all 16 games only starting two but managed to grab 47 receptions for 470 yards and one touchdown. He ranks fourth for the Titans in that area. His 17 third-down receptions r second ranked on the team. Career wise with the Titans Hawkins has had 66 receptions over four years and has played in 45 games.

So the Rams got Fisher and the Titans now get Jonathan Gannon. What an even trade.

In 2006 Gannon was a graduate assistant on defense for his alma mater, Louisville. He played for the Cardinals before suffering a career-ending hip injury.

For the last three years Gannon has been a scout with the Rams. Last year he was a Pro Scout for them and his first two years he scouted for college. He also has experience with the Atlanta Falcons being quality control in 2007.

The Titans need some help on defense, desperately. The offense is doing just fine as long as the O-line toughens up a bit and we get our run-game resigned to future contracts. Gannon will hopefully make some noise with the defensive end.
