Texas inked their 2012 class two days ago and wasted no time landing their first commitment of 2013. Celina offensive and defensive lineman Jake Raulerson pledged to the Longhorns over offers from Stanford, Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma and the rest of the traditional powerhouses.

He’s likely to be used early as a defensive end but his versatility allows for looks situationally at tight end and along the offensive line.

As the first commit in Mack Brown’s class, Raulerson assumes a leadership role similar to Connor Brewer in the previous cycle.

Recruiting, like anything else in sport, is about momentum and securing a top five player in the state this soon means other Longhorn prospects might be more willing to commit at the February Junior Days.

With credit to the incredibly savvy PR folks at Celina High School, here’s a video of Raulerson calling Mack Brown and the rest of the Texas staff and letting them know he’s ready to be a Longhorn.
