Mack Brown and Company didn’t rest long. Just two days after National Signing Day, the Texas Longhorns’ football team added its first recruit of the 2013 class.

On Friday, Celina Bobcats standout, Jake Raulerson, called Coach Brown and the rest of the football staff and told him that he is ready to be a Longhorn. When Brown asked Jake why he chose Texas, Jake told him, “I love the program; I love your coaching staff. It seems like home, and I think that we can win a national title in the next couple of years. I want to be a part of it.”

At this stage in the recruiting process, players can only give a verbal commitment until next February, which is the earliest that they can sign letters of intent. But the Horns have little reason to worry about hanging on to Raulerson. After taking several visits, he knows that Texas, his home school, is where he wants to be.

He and his family will visit Texas again next weekend to take part in the program’s “junior days,” a weekend in which several of the Longhorns’ top targets and their families are invited to tour the campus and meet with players and coaches.

Though it’s still early, Raulerson, who plays on both the offensive and defensive lines for his high school team, is one of the most highly sought after recruits in the country. He has already met with and received offers from some of the top programs in the country, including Alabama, Auburn, Ohio State, Florida, Arkansas, and Standford, just to name a few.

Standing at a massive 6’5″ and weighing 252 pounds entering into his senior season, Raulerson is ranked as the #23 overall national recruit by 247 sports and the #4 player in the Lone Star State.

Despite all the early attention he received, it was Texas that won out in the end, and Raulerson is the first piece in what Mack Brown and Longhorn fans hope will be yet another stellar recruiting class.
