Jose Bautista To Return To Toronto Blue Jays Before September?
Well, what do you know. After a setback a couple of weeks back that put his return this season in doubt, Jose Bautista could actually be nearing the final steps to rejoining the Toronto Blue Jays after all.
The slugger has been out of commission since July 16th with a strained wrist, which Bautista suffered on a regular swing. It was originally thought that perhaps he could be back closer to the 15-day minimum on the DL because there was no break to the bone, but a setback suffered around the first week of August delayed the timetable indefinitely. It’s much more definite now, as Bautista joined the team’s pre-game this weekend, participating in batting practice and coming out unscathed:

The Blue Jays will send Bautista to the Gulf Coast League for a game on Monday, joining the injured-but-also-on-his-way-back Brett Lawrie before working his way up to more rehab games in A-ball. Should all of this go without incident, it is likely that the Blue Jays will want to get their most important offensive piece back as soon as possible. As it turns out, this could mean that the team is in line for a double-shot of DL returnees this coming weekend:

It’s a welcomed change, and one that I wouldn’t have expected to come before September after Bautista had the setback in his rehab. I don’t know about you, but I’m just happy at the possibility that the Las Vegas 51′s could finally go back to playing in Las Vegas instead of plying their trade in Toronto, and the Blue Jays can field a team of MLB players again.
