Of course he did.

Because it’s just the kind of year that the Toronto Blue Jays have had – Jose Bautista has rejoined the disabled list just after a barely a full day from being reinstated, re-aggravating his wrist injury in an at bat last night. The slugger will have his wrist examined by a specialist today, and well, not that I’m a hand specialist or anything, but I’d be surprised if the recommendation (barring that some form of surgery isn’t required) isn’t to just shut him down for the rest of the season. Is there a point to try to get Bautista for a handful of games in September?

Then again, maybe the re-injury isn’t so bad, because Bautista apparently only expected to miss a few days – not the 15-day minimum on the DL – before being re-evaluated, according to MLB.com’s Gregor Chisholm:

Bautista will travel to Cleveland to see a hand specialist. He was informed by media he had been placed on DL — seemed a little surprised

Perhaps it’s just the team’s doctors being proactive in protecting their most important asset? Either way, it’s nothing new for the Blue Jays, who have essentially been fielding a minor league roster for a few weeks now (and playing like it too, with a 7-24 record over their last 31 games). Yikes. 2013 just can’t come soon enough for this team, which – when healthy – is probably still one of the top offensive clubs in the league. So even though the 2012 season is lost, there’s still that to look forward to. That and the “aggressive” off-season that Paul Beeston stated the team will have, I suppose.
