Ray Whitney leads Phoenix Coyotes past Vancouver Canucks

The Phoenix Coyotes defeated the Vancouver Canucks 2-1 in a shootout. Ray Whitney and Mike Smith were the reason why the Coyote won. Whitney scored the Coyotes goal in regulation and the game winning shootout goal. Smith made 39 saves on 40 shots tonight as he outdueled his counterpart Cory Schneider, who made 34 saves on 35 shots. Alex Edler scored the Canucks lone goal of the game. The Coyotes have gone 11-0-1 in the month of February. Antoine Vermette made his Coyotes debut tonight while Zack Kassian and Sami Pahlsson made their Canucks debut tonight after they were acquired in the trade deadline. The Canucks went 9-1-4 in the month of February and they went 3-1-2 on their current 6 game road trip. The Canucks will now head home to begin a 7 game home stand starting Thursday against the St. Louis Blue.
