The folks who spent the summer hyping Braxton Miller, might want to take a look at the Ohio State Buckeyes‘ messy quarterback dilemma.
Miller sprained his MCL in the first drive of Saturday’s game versus San Diego State and it was serious enough for him to be carted off of the field, wear a protective brace shortly thereafter and not return to the game. Initial reports have Miller as day-to-day, but this injury is likely to cause a stir in Columbus, anyway.
Senior Kenny Guiton replaced Miller as the Buckeyes’ signal-caller and if you squinted your eyes you might have been able to see a quarterback controversy brewing.
Miller was pegged as a Heisman Trophy candidate going into this season and rightfully so, as the Buckeyes were able to rattle off an undefeated season with Miller at the helm. Even more impressive is the fact that Miller led the Buckeyes in rushing and passing as a sophomore in 2012. However, head coach Urban Meyer knows what it takes to win at a top-notch program, and if Miller can’t be trusted to stay healthy than Guiton might just be underneath center before it’s all said and done.
I would be a fool to say that Ohio State is going to kick Miller to the curb, but the quarterback saga in Columbus is definitely something that any college football fan needs to be aware of.
