For years, the SEC has been seen as a college football conference that is head ans shoulders better than the rest. However, the 2013 regular season has started with a pair of usual SEC powerhouses getting upset by two teams from a conference that is more known for its basketball prowess than anything else.
Like it or not, the ACC is slowly but surely establishing itself as one of the premier conferences in college football. The Clemson Tigers shocked many when they upset the Georgia Bulldogs last week, but that story has been replaced by another ACC team uprooting a highly-revered SEC program. Believe it or not, the No. 12 Florida Gators were beat on Saturday by none other than the Miami Hurricanes.
Miami was steadfast from the get-go as quarterback Stephen Morris tossed two first-quarter touchdowns, which allowed for the ‘Canes defense to be more advantageous than previously expected. Taking advantage of a less-than-stellar Gators’ offense, Miami was able to force five Florida turnovers! While many pessimists will doubt the Hurricanes, this home victory is perhaps the biggest one in Miami’s recent history — the Gators smoked the ‘Canes by 25 points the last time these two programs locked horns in 2008.
While the ACC is enjoying its early-season success, the conference would be foolish to not set its sights on the 2013 BCS Championship Game.
