Friday evening, the NFL revealed that Greg Williams and 22-27 New Orleans Saints defenders created a “Pay for performance” system which included “bounty” payments from Williams. Shortly after the news surfaced, the Washington Post reported that Greg Williams had a similar “Bounty system” during his tenure with the Washington Redskins.

Four former Redskins players where asked about this and confirmed. Three players, who’s names where not released, said Williams administered thousands of dollars to Redskins defenders for hits known as, “kill shots.”

“If you took a player out, he’d hook you up a little bit.” said anonymous player.

One former player that did not make his name anonymous is Redskins current  “Director of Player Personnel,” Philip Daniels. He defended William’s coaching, “I think it is wrong the way they’re trying to paint [Williams],” Daniels added. “He never told us to go out there and break a guy’s neck or break a guy’s leg. It was all in the context of a good, hard football.”

The Redskins declined to comment through team spokesman, Tony Wyllie.

Joe Gibbs spoke on this situation in a phone interview Friday, “Just let me say this: I’m not aware of anything like this when I was coaching there,” the Hall of Fame coach said in a phone interview. “I would never ask a player to hurt another player. Never.”

It has been reported that the Saints, under Williams’ direction, operated an improper Bounty System that would pay defenders $1,500 for a “knockout” hit and $1,000 if an opponent was carted off the field.

The Washington Redskins were not apart of the initial investigation and it’s unclear how this will be handled.
