After the 2009 season, there was the possibility Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed would call it a career and retire from the NFL. While his status for 2011 is still unknown, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh claims Reed will be back for in 2011.

Harbaugh told Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post that Reed will be back for his 10th season with the Ravens. Here’s what Wilson posted on his Twitter account on Monday:

John Harbaugh said Ed Reed will be back: “He wants to play football. I think Ed’s going to have a great year next year.”

This would be huge for the Ravens as Reed proved this past season that he still has what it takes to be a dominant safety. After missing the first six games of the season while recovering from hip surgery, Reed ended up leading the NFL in interceptions this season with eight–including four over the final two games of the regular season against the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals. Baltimore contained one of the top defenses in the NFL in 2010 and if Reed returns–they should be right up there again next season.
