Despite placing the franchise tag and signing him to a one-year deal last March, the Baltimore Ravens have made it clear all along they would like to work out a long-term deal with defensive tackle Haloti Ngata. After the team’s win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, Ngata ensured Ravens fans there’s nothing to worry about when it comes to negotiations between him and the organization.

According to Mike Preston of the Baltimore Sun, negotiations between Ngata and the Ravens are “moving in the right direction” as both sides appear close to finally reaching an agreement. Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome has wanted to work out a new deal with Ngata for over a month now and after playing a key role with helping Baltimore’s defense force seven turnovers against Pittsburgh.

Ngata started 15 of 16 games for the Ravens in 2010 and recorded 63 total tackles to go along with 5.5 sacks and five passes defensed. Ngata has proven to be a valuable part of Baltimore’s defense since joining the team in 2006 and it would be great to see both sides reach an agreement sooner rather than later.
