Ohio State Adding New HD Scoreboard in The Horseshoe
If you decide to leave the comforts of your own living room this fall to attend an Ohio State game at the Horseshoe, that doesn’t mean you have to give up watching the game in high definition.
That’s because the Buckeyes announced this week they will be installing a new high definition screen in the stadium that will stretch 124 feet long and stand 42 feet tall. The New HD Panasonic jumbotron will also come with a state of the art sound system which will include 25 speakers on each side of the scoreboard.
The new scoreboard will replace the one that has been in use for the past 11 seasons with the current dimensions being 30 x 90 feet and of course, it is not in high definition.
The installation is expected to be completed this August in time for Buckeyes home opener on September 1st against Miami (OH). The total cost for the renovation is expected to come with a hefty price tag of $7 million.
Assuming the dimensions in this link are accurate, Ohio State’s new board will become the sixth largest in the country when measured by square footage (5208 sq. ft) trailing only those at Texas, Miami (FL), USC, Arizona, and Mississippi State.
The stadium will also now have ribbon boards running along the south stands that will measure 4 feet-by- 170 feet and will keep you up to date with statistics from the game as well as scores from around the country.
The cost of the project also includes replacing 223 standard definition televisions with high definition sets that will be found in and around the concession stands and throughout the concourse.
The game day experience in Columbus was already one of the best in the country and the new features in the stadium certainly won’t do anything to tarnish that reputation. Technology, you have to love it.
