Bruins will look for prospect contributions in 2011-12

Filed: 22nd Jul 11 8:00 am by

Rookie development camp is over, and it’s still a few months from training camp, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t already jobs on the line. The Bruins are happily stacked with talent below the NHL level, and they’ll be looking to a few of them to contribute to the team in 2011-12 — if not [...]

Two Bruins prospects have received their first NHL contracts — Jarad Knight and Ryan Spooner — while Stefan Chaput received a one-year contract extension. Knight, the Bruins second-round pick in 2010, is a highly regarded center in the Bruins system. Knight scored 25 goals in 68 games for the London Knights of the junior OHL, [...]

What about Marchand?

Filed: 18th Jul 11 12:03 am by

For the most part, the Boston Bruins have had a quiet offseason. They said their polite goodbyes to defenseman Tomas Kaberle and right wing Michael Ryder, they welcomed aboard Joe Corvo and Benoit Pouliot, and they gave Adam McQuaid a (supposedly) healthy raise, signing him for three more seasons beginning in 2011-12. The McQuaid signing [...]

McQuaid in the fold for three more years

Filed: 15th Jul 11 5:17 pm by

Through bruising play and the ability to make the smart, quick hit, Prince Edward Island’s own Adam McQuaid earned himself a new contract with the Bruins. The 24-year-old defenseman played well in his first full season in the NHL, picking up 15 points in 67 games in the regular season, along with a plus/minus of [...]

Kaberle off to Carolina

Filed: 6th Jul 11 8:04 am by

Not long after the Bruins nabbed Joe Corvo away from Raleigh, the Carolina Hurricanes made their move, signing Tomas Kaberle away for three years and $12.75 million. Considering the deals that were flying around when the free agency period opened on July 1, Kaberle’s looks fairly reasonable. He stays close to the annual average he [...]

The Bruins have added veteran defenseman Joe Corvo, acquired in a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes for a fourth-round draft pick in 2012. Corvo, who picked up an 11-29-40 line in 82 games in Raleigh last season, gives the Bruins a little more veteran depth on the blue line. Boston has yet to re-sign unrestricted [...]

Through a busy first day in free agency for the suddenly cash-rich NHL, Bruins defenseman Tomas Kaberle is still available and still in open discussions with the team. In 2010-11, Kaberle scored 4 goals and 43 assists, though just nine of those points came during his 24 regular season games with the Bruins. Kaberle also [...]

For reasons unknown, the Bruins have signed Benoit Pouliot to a reported one-year, $1.1 million contract. The Bruins will be the left wing’s third NHL team, as Pouliot has previously disappointed the Minnesota Wild, who made him the fourth overall pick in the 2005 draft, and the Montreal Canadiens, who traded Guillaume Latendresse for him [...]

In three years with the Bruins, the Newfoundland native scored 63 goals and 64 assists, and his last contract earned him $12 million over that time.
