The recent reports on the internet have yielded something that should be not surprising. The word is that Kevin Garnett still has a soft spot for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Recently, KG has been hanging out in LA working out and playing pickup games with fellow Celtic Paul Pierce and other NBA players. The interesting part is KG is also working out with T-Wolves rookie Ricky Rubio. Rubio has asked a lot of questions about KG’s former home and no one should be surprised that KG gave Minnesota a glowing review. The man left the Wolves, but he did so with zero malice to the state or fans. He still gets a standing ovation at the Target Center for a reason.
KG loved being the franchise player of the Wolves. He gave the team everything that he had night in and night out. He turned the Wolves from laughing stock to contender despite not having any real help around him. The fans loved him and he had zero intentions of ever leaving. KG is a very loyal guy, but the management knew that they needed to trade him in order to rebuild a roster that lacked any talent other than KG. There were just too many holes on the roster. They had to convince him to allow them to shop his services. It is weird to think KG might not be in Boston and there would be no titles if not for the Wolves management convincing him to be dealt.
Do not get me wrong, KG would not go back and change a single event that led to him leaving. The man is a competitor and loves winning and Boston has provided him the opportunity to do just that. Ainge surrounded him with talent and a great coach in Doc Rivers. He came to Boston and delivered a title to a desperate fan base that had gone too long without a ring and thus cemented his legacy. The man is a Boston Celtic and loves the team and city. However, that does not mean that he just shuts off a loyalty that lasted over a decade with a great state like Minnesota. Remember Go Green or Go Home!!!!!!!!!!
