With 2012 coming fast, it's time to take a look at the best rotations heading into the new season. Gosh I can't wait!

On this list you'll find a few surprising teams, and it's likely a lot of you will want the Yankees, Red Sox, Blue Jays, or Tigers on here. It's fair to say now- none of those teams made the list because they all have issues in terms of the rotation.

To be fair- I wanted to put the Red Sox on here, but since I can't stand the ESPN Boston bias, they fell from 10 to the intro. So take that ESPN!

The Yankees, Tigers, and Blue Jays need another arm (Matt Garza anyone?) before they can move from the top 15 to the top 10- so if that happens- I'll happily re do it.

Did the Rangers make the cut with the Yu Darvish win? Take a look inside

Enjoy!

Tigers not a top 10? what have you been smoking lately?

    • gilgerard says:

Apparently not as good of stuff as you Bob. I didn’t know Justin Verlander made up at least 3 slots of the rotation.

I’d rather have Felix and Pineda over Verlander and….who? Scherzer? Porcello? Fister?

I would recommend getting off the hard stuff bro.

    • Mike says:

“the only reason why they’re number 2 is because the number 1 team can match their top 3 pitch for pitch- and have a better number 4.”

Fun list, and I’m OK with ranking the Angels first based on their superior rotation depth, but I disagree with the above statement regarding #1-#3. Weaver, Haren and Wilson had career seasons, and their combined WAR was still only 15.6. Halladay, Lee, and Hamels combined for 18.7 and only Hamels put up a career best. Looking at 3 year averages, the Angels’ average 4.5 per pitcher. The Phillies’ avg 5.5 / pitcher. It’s not a huge difference, but the Angels can’t match the Phillies top 3 pitch for pitch.

        Mike,

Very fair response and I have no problem if you believe the Phillies rotation as a whole is better than the Angels. Completely subjective in theory.

I PAY zero attention to the “WAR” rating. There are some saber stats that are useful and others that I call junk science. WAR is in the list of junk science for me. Which plays into myself taking the Angels 1-4 over the Phillies 1-3.

Again- very fair response as both staffs are incredible.

        thanks for commenting.
