Dan Canova’s Power Rankings: Top 5 Teams of Week 4 in Major League Baseball
Jim Cowsert-US PRESSWIRE

The real question is Matt Kemp ever going to cool down?  Or is Albert Pujols even going to break 20 homeruns this year?  What is going on in Major League Baseball?

The Rangers continue to win.  The Angels continue to lose.  The Cardinals don’t need Albert Pujols.  And the Kansas City Royals and Minnesota Twins are baseball’s worst team.

Here is my Power Rankings for Week 4 of Major League Baseball:

5. St. Louis Cardinals:  The St. Louis Cardinals continue to do well without Pujols.  The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have Pujols and they continue to lose.  St. Louis is definitely a top 5 team in Major League Baseball today.  There pitching continues to be superb, and when everyone thought Carlos Beltran was finished, he has resurrected.  Lance Lynn and Kyle Lohse are both 4-0 as well.. They may very well be the best team in the National League, but I give the Los Angeles Dodgers an edge.

4. Tampa Bay Rays:  The Tampa Bay Rays have broken into my top 5 teams for the first time this year.  They have arguably one of the best managers in the entire majors, Joe Madden.  Their hitting is awesome.  Longoria is on track to have an MVP type of year thus far, and they have one of the best pitching staffs in all of baseball.  David Price.  James Shields.  Matt Moore.  Jeremy Hellickson, just to name a few.

3. New York Yankees:  After collapsing Justin Verlander, and the Detroit Tigers in Yankee Stadium this past weekend, the New York Yankees have delivered a top 3 spot in my Power Rankings for Week 4.  Their pitching continues to struggle outside of CC Sabathia, but the New York Yankees lineup is one of the best in all of baseball.  Derek Jeter is getting younger.  A-Rod is well, A-Rod.  Cano, and Teixeira are yet to get it going, but once they do, watch out American League.

2. Los Angeles Dodgers:  Matt Kemp continues to ride the chip on his shoulder from a year ago.  He has led the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 16-5 record to start the young season, and he is on fire.  Kemp has 11 homeruns and 24 RBIs.  Leading the league in both.  But many tend to forget Andre Ethier and the season he is having so far.  The Dodgers pitching staff is lights out, hence why they are the number two team in my power rankings this week.

1. Texas Rangers:  Once again at number 1.  What else is there really to say?  The best lineup in baseball.  Their pitching continues to overachieve, and they aren’t slowing down anytime soon.  Heading into Sunday, they have a 9.5 game lead over a team who is supposed to contend in their division.  The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.  Texas Rangers are number 1.
