Chicago Bears Place Franchise Tag on RB Matt Forte
According to ESPNChicago.com, the Bears have placed the franchise on running back Matt Forte. Forte will earn 7.7 million in 2012. As that’s the price for running back franchise players. This does not come as a surprise, as both sides were having trouble reaching a deal. Monday at 4 p.m. eastern is the deadline to designate franchise players. The Bears can still negotiate a multi-extension with Forte until the July 16th deadline. You can expect they will and don’t be surprise when new come out that both sides reached a new contract.
Matt Forte can sign the tender franchise contract when free agency begins on March 13th.
Forte whom is 26 years old was drafted by the Bears in the 2nd round of the 2008 draft. Many of whom think was a steal. As Forte has been the Bears offensive weapon. As he runs great, has excellent vision and a great catching running back. Before Fore went out early vs the Kansas City Royals in week 13 with a knee injury, Forte had 997 rushings yards on 203 attempts with 3 touchdowns. Forte also caught 53 times for 490 yards and 1 touchdown. That was the last game of the season Forte played. The Bears did not want to rush him back and he’ll be 100% ready for the upcoming season.
Don’t forget … Matt Forte made his 1st Pro Bowl. In which was well-deserve. The Bears training staff cleared him to play and that’s one reason we know he’ll be ready to go. Expect him to come next season hungry and put up great stats.
The Bears said they were not going to let him leave free agency and this was the start of keeping him and signing him to a multi-extension.
The last player the Bears franchise was OLB Lance Briggs. The Bears didn’t sign him to an extension until he hit free agency, but he did re-up with the Bears.
I expect the Bears to work on a multi-extension soon with Forte and a deal will be announced sooner than later.
