Alex Marvez of Fox Sports.com reports the Tampa Bay Buccaners hire Ex Bear coach Ron Turner. Turner will be the Bucs quarterback coach and will try to help get 24-year old QB Josh Freeman back on track. This was the second time new Bucs head coach Greg Schiano considered Ron Turner for a coaching position. Last month Schiano thought about hiring Tuner for their offensive coordinator opening, but opted to hire Mike Sullivan.

Ron Turner was a coach for the Chicago Bears from 1993-1996 (1st stint) and 2005-2009 (2nd stint). He came to Chicago as the quarterbacks coach and eventually became the offensive coordinator (in his 2nd stint, though). After Tuner was fired by the Bears prior to the 2009 season, he became the Stanford offensive coordinator. However, that only lasted 4 weeks as he was hired by the Colts to be their wide receivers coach. After that, Tuner switch from the wide receivers coach to be their quarterbacks coach in 2011 (look at how that worked).

After Turner was fired by the Bears, the Bears hired Mike Martz as their new offensive coordinator. He was better than Tuner, but not a big upgrade. 2 years later Martz was let go [eventually retired] and the Bears promoted Mike Tise from the OL coach to the offensive coordinator (Tim Holt is the new OL coach for the Bears).

It seems Ron Tuner is a respected QB’s coach and where his success has come from in the NFL. Being the offensive coordiantor, not so much.
