According to multiple sources, the Bears are expected to make a strong push for wide receiver Vincent Jackson. The 3 p.m, deadline came and past yesterday with the Chargers not placing the franchise tag on Jackson. Making him become a free agent on March 13th when free agency opens. The Chargers will still like to re-sign him, though. However, from all the reports, the Bears seem heavy favorites to sign him.

Before the franchise tag deadline came, the Bears were going to have the most interest in Vincent Jackson and Cliff Avril. However, the Detroit Lions placed the franchise tag on Avril crossing him off the list.

Vincent Jackson is a player the Bears desperately need. As he has height, will go up for the ball and a deadly red zone threat. In which the Bears don’t have that. In Angelo’s tenure, the Bears will never sign receivers or if they did, they would have been small ones. Also, Angelo drafted too small of receivers. Let’s hope Phil Emery’s tenure starts with a win and that’s by signing a big receiver. Jackson is going to command a good contract and may get more too as 10 teams are interested in him. The Bears have the cap room and can make it happen … they will have a little bit more than 30 million. Another team that will have interest in Jackson is the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings to have the cap room.

Jackson whom is 6’5, and 230 will by far be the Bears best and tallest wide receiver. The Bears tallest receiver now is Earl Bennett and he’s 6 feet, 206 pounds. So …. as we already know, there is a big need for Jackson in Chicago.

John Clayton says he thinks the Bears will make a big run for Vincent Jackson.

Jackson will join a wide receiver crew of Earl Bennett, Johnny Knox and Devin Hester. The Bears could draft a receiver in the draft too … one name that a lot people want the Bears to draft (may not be available, though) is Michael Floyd who played for Notre Dame. I’m one who will love the Bears to draft Floyd. I watched him all his years at Notre Dame and loves his game. However, he had a great scouting combine and may have moved up in the 1st round of the draft. In which that would suck a lot.

If the Bears do fail to sign Vincent Jackson … look for Marques Colston to be one of their next targets. To be honest, I’m more of a fan of Colston than Jackson, but you can’t go wrong with either. I came to the conclusion that the Bears will actually sign a big-tall wide receiver in free agency.

Remember, free agency starts mid day (3 p.m.) on March 13th.
