According to Michael Wright of ESPNChicago.com, the Bears have interest in free agent linebacker David Hawthorne. In 2011, Hawthorne played with the Seattle Seahawks. Another team that has interest in Hawthorne are the Detroit Lions an NFC North foe. Michael Wright says the Bears were interested in Hawthore a few years back and the interest has rekindled.

Hawthorne is only 26 years old and has put up great stats. He was signed by the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2008. If the Bears were to sign Hawthorne, he would play strong side linebacker and pair up with other great linebackers Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs. He wouldn’t be too expensive and the signing of Hawthorne, would not end the pursuit of another big time free agent.

In 2011, Hawthorne had 115 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 fumble recovery, 3 interceptions (1 for a touchdown) and 6 pass deflections. As you can see, Hawthorne would be a nice addition and help the defense ever more.

However, I heard he has 2 bad knees. So … that could come into play, but if the Bears do sign him, I hope it doesn’t. The good part is, Hawthorne played all 16 games last year and appears to be healthy enough to be on the field. He’s also a for sure tackler and that’s what Lovie Smith’s defense is all about.

We’ll see if the Bears move fast on Hawthorne as free agency opens up tomorrow at 3 p.m. central.
