According to a report by ESPNChicago, the Bears have re-signed tight end Kellen Davis to a 2 year deal. The Bears always wanted to re-sign Davis, but had interest in John Carlson too. But when Carlson signed a contact with the Minnesota Vikings, the Bears up their pursuit to re-sign Davis. Davis did have interest by a few teams and had meetings scheduled.

Davis earn the starting TE spot when the Bears shipped Greg Olsen to Carolina. Lovie Smith likes Davis a lot and a reason the Bears decided to keep him. Davis was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 5th round of the 2008 draft. During the 2011 season, Davis had 206 yards catching and scored 6 touchdowns. Davis was good at holding onto the ball as he had no fumbles.

Davis will re-join Matt Spaeth in the TE department. Davis is more of the receiving touchdown and Spaeth is more of the blocking TE. It’s not a bad signing and since the draft is weak for TE and their are not being much TE’s available on the open market, it’s a good signing.

Other News and Notes:
*The next priority on the Bears to-do list is to re-sign safety Craig Steltz.
*The Bears were very close to signing DE Jeremy Mincey. Mincey was about to sign the contract, but Jaguars GM made a last pitch to re-sign him and he decided to go back to Jacksonville.
*LB David Hawthorne is scheduled to visit the New Orleans Saints. The Bears have a lot of interest in him.
