Jason O. Watson-US PRESSWIRE

According to multiple reports, the Bears have re-signed safety Craig Steltz to a 2-year contract. He will earn 1.64 million on the contract. Also, Steltz can earn more money on the first year depending on his playing time. Steltz will join other safeties Chris Conte and Major Wright. He could join another safety depending on if the Bears sign and/or draft one.

Craig Steltz opened eyes last year with his good and hard play on the field. Steltz, whom is 26 years old was drafted by the Bears in the 4th round of the 2008 draft. During the 2011 season, Steltz had 53 tackles, 1 sack, 2 forced fumbles, but had no interceptions. With more playing time, Steltz won’t have another season without an interception.

Craig Steltz joins a few other Bears who have been re-signed … CB Tim Jennings, DE Israel Idonije, QB Josh McCown, TE Kellen Davis, RB Khalil Bell was tendered a contract and RB Matt Forte was played with the franchise tag.

I like the signing, especially with the contract the Bears gave him. I think it’s a win-win for the Bears.

Other news and notes:
*The Oakland Raiders have officially released DE Kamerion Wimbley. The Bears are expected to have a lot of interest in Wimbley but money may become a problem. I guess we’ll find out.
