The Chicago Bears, who are desperate for any help on the offense line, brought in Jonathan Scott for a tryout on Saturday.

Going into the off-season, one of the Bears’ major areas of concern was the offensive line. The only move they made, however, was a minor one. However, it’s not that Phil Emery didn’t try – there were no options out there and the ones that were available got overpaid.

You may be wondering how he can help if he’s still out there? The main reason he’s still out there is because of his knee. Scott was last signed by the Detroit Lions, but was released last week because of lingering knee issues. So, if he was to show that he’s healthy, he may be a good signing.

Scott was drafted by the Lions in the 5th round (pick 141) of the 2006 draft. He then left the Lions for the Buffalo Bills after the 2007 season. After the 2008 season, he found himself on the Pittsburgh Steelers roster and later re-signed with the Lions before his eventual release. If Scott was at 100 percent, he could be a serviceable OL but we never know as he can’t get himself to stay healthy.

The Bears had him in for a workout last week, but no offer was made. Since the Bears want want help along the OL as soon as possible, that may not be a good destination for Scott. The knee might not have checked out and/or he didn’t look good in his tryout.

If the Bears were to sign Scott, he would join an OL group of Roberto Garza, J’Marcus Webb, Chris Spencer, Chilo Rachal, Chris Williams, Gabe Carimi, Edwin Williams and Lance Louis.

In other news, the Bears signed 2 players to the practice squad: Cory Brandon and James Brown.

I guess we’ll see if the Bears sign Scott or another offensive line this upcoming week!
