Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo Launches Official Mobile App

With 40 million Facebook “likes” and over 7 million Twitter followers, Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo is the world’s most popular athlete–at least when it comes to social media. He has a world-wide, global appeal that very few athletes have today.

Now, he has given his fans across the world even more of a chance to “get to know” him.

Early today, Ronaldo (along with MobileRoadie) launched a free official Ronaldo mobile app that will allow his fans exclusive CR7 content, and gives them a chance to get even “closer” to the Portuguese futbol player.

The app, which is available on both the iPhone and Android platforms, includes a section of photos/videos of the star, a “news” section which includes the Ronaldo’s Facebook and Twitter feeds, a “fan wall” for fans to communicate with one another, and a “top users” section which ranks fans depending on their app usage. It also includes a biographical section of the popular soccer player, as well as a link to Ronaldo-themed games.

Though Ronaldo isn’t new to the mobile app game (he previously launched “Heads Up,” an animated cartoon game) this is the first official app that allows fans to engage with the world’s famous athlete and interact with one another on a more personal basis.

While he isn’t the first star to develop an official mobile app, he is certainly the one with the most world-wide appeal to do so. If successful, this could set the stage for athletes all over the world to follow suit.
