Kurt Coleman got a taste of rookie Trent Richardson today. Richardson was the third-pick overall in the NFL Draft and is going to be a key player for the Cleveland Browns this season.

It was debatable whether Richardson would be able to start for today’s game, let alone be at full strength. Richardson missed the entire preseason due to arthroscopic knee surgery only one month ago. He has been limited in practice and just got the clearing to play late this week.

Richardson is 5-feet-9 inches tall and weighing in at 227 pounds. Now imagine getting plowed down as he is running full-speed towards you.

In the second quarter, Richardson broke away for a nine-yard gain as he dropped his head to charge through through the Philadelphia Eagles safety. Coleman lowered his head and took a hard hit from Richardson.

Richardson plowed him so hard that Coleman’s helmet was sent flying about nine-yards backwards. Coleman was definitely shaken up by the play but managed to get back up fairly quickly.

Hard hits used to be something everyone was entertained by but now with the NFL’s focus on concussions, we’re supposed to act as if the helmet crack is a horrible thing to watch.

Yet, everyone still finds it amusing, as a hard hit is one to be proud of. It’s not everyday you manage to ram someone and make their helmet go flying, especially when you’re on offense and running the ball.

Richardson has potential to be one of the top running backs in the league between his size, strength, speed and agility. The Browns also have a rookie quarterback this year; there is a lot of room for growth and you could see them in the top of the standings in future seasons.
