Kobe Bryant Ruins The Los Angeles Lakers Chances Of Acquiring Dwight Howard
Jeff Hanisch-US PRESSWIRE

One of the biggest reasons why many players have flocked to the Los Angeles Lakers is not only the opportunity to play on the biggest stage in the entire NBA, and a chance to win an NBA championship, but to play alongside one of the greatest players of all time, Kobe Bryant. Dwight Howard is no different, he wants to play in a big market, L.A has that, a chance to play for an NBA championship, the Lakers can give him that, but as for the last part of the equation, playing along Kobe Bryant, apparently Dwight Howard does not want that.

It was noted earlier in one of my posts, here, that Dwight Howard had informed the Magic that he no longer wantedto be traded to the Lakers. The reasoning behind that decision was unclear. The story, originally seen here, said that Howard was not interested in following in the huge footsteps of the great Shaquille O’Neal who also left the Magic and won three NBA titles with the Lakers. But that explanation seems to be a little odd and, at first, I felt that there had to be more behind Howard’s reasoning for not wanting to come to the Lakers.

So I dug around a little more and found a little piece of info, which you can see here if you can find it, on the real reasoning behind Howard’s decision. A source close to Dwight Howard said this when asked why Howard no longer wished to be traded to the Lakers, “Kobe messed it up. That’s all I can say for now.” On top of that in a story found on RealGm.com Kobe Bryant told Howard that he would be a third option in L.A and that the team would be his only when Kobe finally decided to hang it up. Howard then said that there was, “no way” that he would go to a team where he would be a third option. Howard was immediately turned off by the idea of joining the Lakers.

Though I haven’t heard this before it is truly not shocking to hear. It was widely speculated that Kobe did not want to share the spotlight with Howard if he were to become a Laker. Heck maybe now we have an idea on who was truly responsible for the infamous Kobe-Shaq feud.It’ll be interesting to see how this whole situation plays out as now reports are surfacing, that Howard has not removed the Lakers from his list of three desired destinations, and that he would approve of a deal to the Lakers. Only time will tell whether Kobe can handle another superstar personality the likes of which the NBA hasn’t seen since Shaq.
