Chauncey Billups MRI Reveals A Torn Achilles Tendon, Is Done For The Season
Douglas Jones-US PRESSWIRE

On Monday evening the Los Angeles Clippers faced the Orlando Magic and came away with a great victor. But the victory did not come with a cost as starting shooting guard Chauncey Billups suffered a horrible injury, presumably on his left Achilles Tendon, which many people in the organization feared would sideline him for therest of the season. Billups was set to undergo an MRI in Cleveland on Tuesday and the results were not what Clipper fans wanted to hear.

Per the Los Angeles Times website, “An MRI exam today revealed that Clippers guard Chauncey Billups has a torn his left Achilles’ tendon. Billups, who was injured in Monday’s overtime victory over the Magic in Orlando, Fla.,  will be out at least eight months, ending his season.” The news was first received by Clippers team trainer Jason Powell via phone and then relayed over to Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro. Los Angeles Times columnist T.J Simers received the news from Del Negro during a recent lunch interview.

The injury is a huge blow to the Clippers as Billups was averaging 15.0 points, 4.0 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game and was proving to be a great pickup off the waiver wire after Billups was amnestied, during the off-season, by the New York Knicks. Not only is it a big blow to the Clippers but also to Billlups himself. The injury will rob Billups of his dream of participating in the 2012 London Olympics and will likely end Billups’ career as the injury may be too much to overcome.
