Los Angeles Lakers Stop Pursuit Of Ramon Sessions
Brett Davis-US PRESSWIRE

For a long time now the Lakers have been linked to Cleveland Cavaliers backup point guard Ramon Sessions. It seemed that the Lakers were the front-runners as they are in desperate need of a point guard and would have only needed to give up a first-round draft pick. But apparently a first-round draft pick is too much for the Lakers and they have rejected that proposal and stopped pursuit of Sessions.

Here is what the report (via Mike Bresnahan) said, “The Lakers were close to a smaller deal with Cleveland for backup point guard Ramon Sessions but didn’t want to part with the future first-round pick they acquired from Dallas for Odom.” At this point I, along with many other NBA enthusiasts and Laker fans, don’t really know what the Lakers front-office is doing. But after reading up on the Lakers thinking in the front-office one thing became clear. Jim Buss, or whoever is running the Lakers nowadays, is looking towards the future.

The Buss family really doesn’t care about this team anymore and they know that it’s not good enough to compete for a title. So why keep feeding cash into something that isn’t going to work, the Buss family simply won’t do it. The possibility of acquiring Dwight Howard is zero, the Lakers are out of the running. Sessions would definitely be better than Derek Fisher at the point guard position but, in the eyes of the Buss family, not a player capable of getting the Lakers over the hump.

Whoever is at the head of this sinking ship better wake up quick because the Lakers, albeit slowly, are beginning to deteriorate as a franchise.
