Report: Mike D’Antoni Wanted To Trade Carmelo Anthony For Deron Wiliams
Mike DiNovo-US PRESSWIRE

The Mike D’Antoni era has ended in New York and the Knicks are in a tailspin.  I don’t think Mike Woodson is going to save them.   You can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig.  That’s what this New York roster is.  None of the parts fit together, kind of like a bad end table from IKEA.

However, David Aldridge is reporting that D’Antoni tried to save the roster a little bit.  D’Antoni desperately wanted to do a Carmelo Anthony for Deron Williams swap with the New Jersey Nets.  It would have worked for sides as New Jersey would keep a superstar and Amare Stoudamire would get to play with a great pick and roll point guard in Williams.

Alas, owner James Dolan didn’t want to give up the guy he blew his roster up for.  Sad to see, because Williams/Amare/Chandler is a lot better than Melo/Amare/Chandler.  At least all the pieces fit together in the first scenario.

I really don’t think D’Antoni was the problem, and the Knicks still trail several teams in the eastern conference in not just the standings, but in talent and guys believing in one another.

Good look Woodson.  You are dealing with an awful roster and worse owner.  None of us envy you.
