With all the attention of the NFL season and the NBA lockout, it is easy to forget about the upcoming NHL season. The 2011-12 season is already under way and it is never too late to start reading up on the talent. Below are the top ten fantasy centers for this year:
1. Steven Stamkos, TB – Stamkos scored 96 goals and had 90 assists in the last two years, which isn’t bad for a 21-year old.
2. Sidney Crosby, PIT – “Sid the Kid” is the best fantasy player in the world, but it remains to be seen if he is completely healthy from his concussion.
3. Henrick Sedin, VAN – Sedin led the NHL in assists, the last two years and has helped with 158 goals during that span.
4. Pavel Datsyuk, DET – The center was on fire before a broken hand sidelined him for a majority of the season, but the center still managed 59 points in only 56 games last year.
5. Nicklas Backstrom, WAS – Backstrom can distribute the puck as good as anyone and will benefit from being on the same line as Alexander Ovechkin all year.
6. Evgeni Malkin, PIT – Malkin was hampered by injuries all of last year and still managed to score 86 points in only 75 games.
7. Anze Kopitar, LA – The 24-year old has 358 career points in the 393 games of his career, and still hasn’t played his best hockey.
8. Brad Richards, NYR – Richards was the big free agency signing this off-season and will immediately improve the Rangers’ power play unit.
9. Jonathan Toews, CHI – Toews was equally dangerous on offense with 32 goals and 44 assists in 2010.
10. Henrick Zettenberg, DET – “Zatta” scored 80 points in 80 games, as the Sweed was finally healthy over an entire season.
Just missed: Ryan Getzlaf (ANA), Dan Bierre (PHI), and Mike Richards (LA)
