2013 Fantasy Football: Giovani Bernard on His Way to Top-10 RB Status

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

Fantasy football folks, if you’re looking for a guy to possibly deal for at the moment, look no further than Cincinnati Bengals running back Giovani Bernard. At the moment, he sits as the 12th-ranked fantasy back in non-PPR leagues and that is even with continuing to share carries with BenJarvis Green-Ellis.

Bernard entered this season as a rookie thought to potentially contribute in a big way if given the opportunities. Green-Ellis is going to eventually have his carries lessened throughout the rest of the season due to the emergence and consistency of Bernard.

On the season, Bernard currently has 497 total yards and four touchdowns — 264 yards rushing with two touchdowns and 233 yards receiving with two touchdowns. With the way Bernard has performed, it’s no secret that he will continue to get more touches as the season wears on.

Quarterback Andy Dalton has come into his own and is playing some incredible football at the moment and has his Bengals as a legitimate threat in the AFC right now. In their division, they look like the clear favorites to come out on top and if Dalton continues to play at this level, the run game will more than likely be opened up even more so than it has been.

If you are looking for a guy to count on down the stretch this season, go out and get Bernard if you can. He’s absolutely a worthwhile RB2 and could be working his way into the top-10 running backs shortly. Watch for Bernard’s production to stay on the rise as the Bengals figure out he is the real deal, while Green-Ellis is not as versatile and could be losing his job soon.
