New scenery for a player can mean a lot in any sport, and for Indianapolis Colts’ Hakeem Nicks, he will be looking to get back to the player he was in 2012, and should be drawing interest from fantasy football owners this season after a few down seasons.
With his new team, Nicks will be surrounded with other very good wide receivers in T.Y. Hilton and Reggie Wayne. The Colts’ offense is also led by one of the best young quarterbacks in the league in Andrew Luck, who will surely enjoy all the weapons he has at his disposal to throw to, and they all should make the Colts one of the best offenses in the league, which means lots of fantasy points.
Last season, Nicks was almost a 1000-yard receiver, as he finished with 896 yards on 56 catches, but oddly had zero touchdown catches in his 15 games. Injuries have been an issue for Nicks, which was one of the reasons for the Giants letting him go in the offseason.
Nicks is an extremely talented WR when healthy and motivated, and playing for a winner like the Colts can be a real steal in the later part of a fantasy draft. In Indianapolis, Nicks should not see any double teams with Indianapolis like he has at times with the New York Giants.
Wayne is starting to get a bit older and is coming off of ACL surgery from last season, so Nicks will really have the opportunity to be the second guy behind Hilton in a very pass-heavy offense. The Colts don’t mind throwing the ball in the red zone, making a repeat of zero touchdowns for Nicks this season highly unlikely.
Nicks has said that he is in the best shape of his career right now, and if that’s the case with his new team and Pro Bowl QB in Luck, Nicks can be a really good draft pick in the later rounds of your fantasy football draft.
