2014 Fantasy Football: TE Delanie Walker A Great Week 2 Waiver Wire Pickup

The Tennessee Titans are not a very popular team. Their players are incredibly overlooked and typically underrated nationally in general, but even more so in fantasy football. The Titans looked great in their Week 1 win against the Kansas City Chiefs, and a few of their skill position players will be available on your waiver wire this week, including TE Delanie Walker who had a solid opener.

Walker was the ninth most productive TE during Week 1 with three receptions, 37 yards and one TD (nine or ten points depending on setting) despite being ranked as the TE29 by some prior to the season and going virtually undrafted with the exception of PPR leagues. Walker is available in 45 percent of ESPN leagues and is a great pickup particularly in PPR formats as he’s often used as QB Jake Locker‘s security blanket and becomes a quasi possession receiver.

He is only owned in 49 percent of Yahoo! leagues and was only started by eight percent overall. I repeat: only eight percent of Yahoo! started the ninth most productive tight end for the week, which is why I have been and will continue to stress how important finding bargains is in fantasy football. Don’t fall into the trap of overlooking someone just because you’re unfamiliar with his name. If he is consistent and puts up adequate statistics you must be open to taking him, because the stars essentially average the same points every week. So it’s the lesser known players who are often the bigger difference makers filling out the end of your roster.

Walker’s Week 2 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys should be enough for you to give him a chance. Dallas’ defense was exposed by San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis for four receptions, 44 yards and two TDs on Sunday. Davis finished the week as the second most productive TE  (16 points on ESPN) after the Denver BroncosJulius Thomas. Walker is not as talented as Davis, but against Dallas he could undoubtedly perform like him due to the matchup. Don’t miss out.
