Is Blake Wheeler Already a Bust?
Blake Wheeler came into the league with the Phoenix Coyotes in the first round (5th overall) in the 2004 NHL Draft.
Four years later Wheeler still had not yet come to a contract agreement with the Coyotes. Thus Wheeler became an unrestricted free agent and later signed an entry level contract with the Boston Bruins on July 1st, 2008. In the up and coming season for 2008 Wheeler made the final cut on the roster. Then in his NHL debut Wheeler scored his first career goal. A month later Wheeler scored his first hat-trick of his career. By the end of the season Wheeler collected 21 goals for 45 points, along with an impressive +36.
But since his rookie season, we have seen no improvements in Wheeler’s last two seasons. This was the probable cause for Wheeler getting trade to the Atlanta Thrashers last season (now the Winnipeg Jets).
I’m sure we all had higher hopes for Wheeler after the kind of production he put up in his rookie season. But this is his 4th year in the NHL now and in my opinion his last two years have been unimpressive. I need him to step-up and start producing points this season. I know Wheeler does not have the best core of forwards to work with compared to other team in the NHL. But even being on a not very deep talented team, Wheeler has been bounced around to all four forwards lines this season. But right now (even though he is only 25 years old) I feel that Wheeler is a bust and he going to be at best 3rd/2nd line forward depending what team he plays for.
