Detroit Red Wings break NHL Record With 21st Straight Win at Home

Tonight, the Detroit Red Wings and Joe Lewis Arena wrote themselves into the record books behind a sellout crowd by defeating the Dallas Stars at home for the 21st straight home win in a row, breaking the record formerly held by the 1929-1930 Boston Bruins and the 1975-1976 Philadelphia Flyers who both won 20 games in a row at home.

The Red Wings won the game 3-1 over the Stars. The Red Wings now have an unprecedented 24-2-1 record at home this season and begin to break away from the pack as they are in cruise control currently in first place in the Western Conference.

The last team in the last five years to go on an extended home winning streak was the Boston Bruins of 2008-2009 who went on a 14 game winning streak between November 0f 2008 until January of 2009 when they lost to the Buffalo Sabres at the Boston Garden.

The Red Wings DM Ken Holland has already promised the fans a banner in the arena saluting their accomplishment.
