Defense wins championships. Its a mantra that fans here numerous times throughout football season. Even more so, fans hear of their favorite team’s need for pass rushers. In the National Football League, its a position that franchises spend top draft picks on. In college football, its a position that is highly recruited ever year.

On Saturday, the Florida State Seminoles and Coach Jimbo Fisher received a commitment from such a player.

Davin Bellamy of Chamblee High School gave his commitment to Florida State following his team’s picture day. Bellamy is the Seminoles 18th commitment in their 2013 class and their first at the position of defensive end.

The owner of more than 30 Division-1 scholarship offers including ones from in-state powers Georgia and Georgia Tech, Devin Bellamy’s decision came down to playing for the Seminoles or the Vanderbilt Commodores. The reasoning behind his decision was that Bellamy felt that playing for coach Fisher at FSU would be better for his career than playing at Vanderbilt.

At 6-foot-5, 240 pound prospect out of the state of Georgia, Davin Bellamy possesses great pass rushing skills that will only improve at Florida State. He will need to spend time in the weight room when he arrives in Tallahassee, Bellamy’s height gives him a wing span that will help him at his defensive end position to get around opposing offensive tackles.

Florida State will lose seniors Tank Carradine and Brandon Jenkins to graduation this season, making Davin Bellamy’s commitment that much more important for the Seminoles. His commitment will mean even more if junior defensive end Bjoern Werner leaves for the NFL.
