SEC 50 Players In 50 Days: Bacarri Rambo
Daniel Shirey-US PRESSWIRE

Well it’s game week, and we roll right back to the defensive side of the football in our Rant Sports, SEC 50 Players in 50 Days previews.  Today we take a look at Georgia Bulldogs free safety, Bacarri Rambo.

Bacarri Rambo, S, Georgia:

The Georgia Bulldogs will begin the 2012 college football season September 1st as they take on the Buffalo Bulls at Sanford Stadium in Athens. The Dawgs will return nine starters on defense in 2012, off a 2011 defense that finished ranked fifth in the nation in total defense.  If there is one concern on the bulldog defense, it has to be in the secondary where safety Bacarri Rambo is expected to miss the first four games of the 2012 season.

Rambo has been a staple on the Georgia defense since after his redshirt year in 2008.  In 2009, he received the teams Newcomer of the Year award for his performance.  He saw action in 11 games as a freshman, recording 25 tackles, five pass break-ups and three interceptions.

Moving to 2010, his sophomore season, Rambo started all 13 games recording 82 tackles.  Always around the football, he also had three interceptions, three pass break-ups and three forced fumbles.  Rambo led or tied for the team lead in tackles three times during the 2010 season. His most outstanding game came against Florida, as he had registered 14 tackles and a pass break-up versus the Gators.

Last season, as a junior, Rambo led the SEC in interceptions with eight.  He started 13 games and recorded 55 tackles.  For his efforts, he was named First Team All American by the Associated Press, Yahoo Sports, and Rivals.com.

The Bulldog secondary should be strong, even without Rambo.  Cornerback Branden Smith returns at one corner spot and will be joined by Malcolm Mitchell who steps in for Sanders Cummings for the first two games of the year.  At safety, Shawn Williams is one of the leaders of the bulldog defense, but will have to tutor freshman Josh Harvey-Clemons while Rambo serves his suspension.
