Nick Saban’s dominant Alabama defensive line is led by a defensive unit that led the nation last season in run defense, holding opponents to only 72.15 yards a game en route to a national championship. After holding Denard Robinson and Michigan to just 69 yards rushing on Saturday, it seems nothing has changed.
While the Alabama defensive line has been a nightmare for offenses both in the past and present, the recent commitment of defensive end Demarcus Walker ensures they have a bright future. The 6-4, 280 pound Walker from Sandalwood (Fl.) High School will bring his strength and quickness to a defensive line that combined for 9.5 sacks last season. Walker, a four-star recruit who is ranked as the number 6 defensive line by Rivals.com, chose the Crimson Tide over a slew of top programs, including arch-rivals Auburn.
Walker’s not the first four-star 2013 commitment to the defensive line, joining Stone Bridge (Va.) High’s Jonathan Allen and Darius Page from Foley (Al.) High School. Allen, a quick 6-3, 225 pound defensive end, penetrates well and is an excellent run stopper. Page, a sizable 6-3, 280 defensive tackle, moves well for his size and is also best used against the run. Both committed to Alabama in May.
Alabama is additionally waiting on word from other four-star defensive linemen. Defensive tackle Montravius Adams from Dooly County (Ga.) High, defensive end Tim Williams from University Laboratory (La.), and defensive tackle Maquedias Bain from University School of Nova South (Fl.) are all considering joining the ever frightening Alabama defensive line.
Alabama’s 2013 recruiting class is considered amongst the strongest nationwide. They host Western Kentucky on Saturday.
