Dayton Daily News Takes Shot at Ohio State Following Flyers’ Big Win
College basketball fans could not have asked for a better start to the 2014 NCAA Tournament on Thursday afternoon as the No. 11 University of Dayton Flyers crushed the hopes and dreams of the millions of fans who were hoping for a perfect bracket by upsetting the No. 6 Ohio State Buckeyes 60-59 thanks to Vee Sanford’s game-winning layup. Obviously, this was a huge deal when it comes to bragging rights in the state of Ohio for the Flyers and after the big upset–a local Dayton newspaper decided to have some fun and poke fun at the Buckeyes.
As most college sports fans already know, the Buckeyes have a reputation by calling themselves “THE” Ohio State Buckeyes–so the Dayton Daily News decided to take a shot at Aaron Craft and company by coming up with the creative “THE” University of Dayton headline. Just when you thought this loss couldn’t sting any more for Buckeyes fans, The Dayton Daily News comes up with a headline like this that is taking the internet by storm to remind everyone about arguably the biggest upset from Thursday.
With the win, the Flyers will square up against Syracuse on Saturday in Buffalo. There were plenty of fans who had Ohio State going pretty far in this year’s bracket as they seemed to have favorable matchups before the Sweet 16–which obviously backfired.
Instead, all eyes will be on the Flyers come Saturday to see if they can continue dancing into the Sweet 16 and emerge as one of this year’s Cinderella teams.
