Interesting scenarios have been developing since the past weekend, especially after the losses of Stanford and Boise State. Nebraska, which has a horrible loss at home to Northwestern, and a blowout versus Wisconsin, could still be heading to the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl this year.
Nebraska needs to win their last two remaining games for this to happen. The loser of the B1G 10 title game will probably not be heading to a BCS bowl, rather to the Gator or another New Year’s Day game.
Obviously, Nebraska would like to win out, go to Indianapolis, and then on to the Rose Bowl. Michigan State controls their destiny after Nebraska’s embarrassing lost to Northwestern. It may be better for the Huskers if they did not go to the B1G 10 title game and lose; rather, sit at home, watch, and then enjoy their invite to Glendale.
If Nebraska were to get to Glendale, there are quite a few quality opponents who could be waiting. Oklahoma would be a good game, being a rematch of the Big XII Championship game from last year. Oklahoma State could be waiting, or maybe even Kansas State.
Nebraska would have to come ready to play against Oklahoma or Oklahoma State, as both teams are pretty good throwing the ball, and the Huskers defense has been suspect in that area at times. Collin Klein is a good running quarterback, and could pose problems if the Huskers end up facing the Wildcats.
If Nebraska were to drop another game, however, expect a New Year’s day game at best. It could be versus an ACC or SEC team, as Georgia, Clemson, Virginia Tech, or Arkansas could be waiting.
There’s still plenty of football left to be played, and the Huskers need to look further than Michigan this weekend. The Huskers must take care of the Blue and Maize in order for any of this to happen.
